Health Care Providers

Health care providers face legal obligations from federal, state, and local governments, as well as from accrediting agencies, specialty boards and other non-governmental agencies. Howard Burde has worked with each of these governmental and non-governmental entities.

Howard Burde’s background in health law includes seven years as Chief Legal Counsel for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania responsible for health law. In that capacity he was responsible for the drafting and implementation of all laws pertaining to health care providers.

He currently serves on the Pennsylvania bicameral, bipartisan legislative commission on the reform of health laws. He is the only private practice lawyer unaffiliated with a stakeholder to be asked to serve.

Based on his experience, Howard Burde envisioned and became the Editor and Principal Author of the Health Laws of Pennsylvania as well as numerous other books, articles and presentations.

He is among the leading health lawyers on health information technology issues and has participated in the drafting of two books on the subject, and is a recognized national figure. His familiarity with not only HIPAA, but the myriad other laws on the subject of health information, as well as his working knowledge and experience with other federal laws applicable to health care providers, make him unique among health lawyers in the country.
